Dear BJH Parent/Guardian,
At Bowie Junior High, we are committed to supporting every student's academic success as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 STAAR assessments. To provide additional support, we have scheduled several tutorial sessions designed to reinforce key concepts and build student confidence.
We want to clearly emphasize that these tutorial sessions are completely OPTIONAL. While we strongly encourage participation to help students feel well-prepared, attendance is not mandatory. Furthermore, all students are invited and encouraged to attend, regardless of their performance or specific scores on the recent mock assessments. We believe every student can benefit from these sessions as they prepare for the final tests.
The tutorial schedule for Reading Language Arts (RLA) and Math is open to all grade levels:
RLA STAAR Tutorials: April 3 from 8:00 – 12:00.
Math STAAR Tutorials: April 17 from 8:00 – 12:00.
Please note the only limitation on our schedule: the Science and Social Studies tutorials are reserved for 8th-grade students.
8th Grade Science & Social Studies Tutorials: April 10 from 8:00 – 10:00.
For your planning purposes, the 2026 STAAR testing dates are as follows:
RLA: April 8 (All grades)
Science: April 14 (8th grade)
Social Studies: April 16 (8th grade)
Math: April 22 (All grades)
We appreciate your partnership in helping our students succeed. If you have any questions regarding these optional sessions, please feel free to reach out. If you missed the STAAR Zoom meeting on March 26 at noon, send me an email, and I will happily answer any questions that you or your child may have. This is the hyperlink to sign up for any or all of the tutorial sessions. You may also complete the form by using the QR code below. They both take you to the same place.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Fleming, BJH Principal

Please ask them for both!

Please consider these dates when making appointments, etc. If a student begins a test and is pulled for an appointment, they unfortunately cannot return to the test. Thank you!

Please join us for two wonderful opportunities next Thursday, March 26. Our art students will have the chance to exhibit their projects from the year, while our 2026-27 cheerleading team feeds you! Feed your family and take in the art all in one stop at the BJH Cafeteria. The event begins at 5:30.

After gathering input from our Calendar Committee, surveying parents and staff, and working closely with administration, the BISD Board of Trustees has officially adopted the 2026–2027 Instructional Calendar! ✅
🔹 What’s Staying the Same?
✔️ Monday–Thursday school week remains for consistency
✔️ Minimal changes to maintain a familiar routine for students and staff
🔹 Key Adjustments:
🍂 A full week off for Thanksgiving has been restored based on Calendar Committee feedback
🏈 Traditional Homecoming festivities will include a ½ day of school on September 18
⛈️ Bad weather days are scheduled for April 16, with one additional day banked through excess minutes beyond the required 75,600 instructional minutes
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. Your input helps us shape the best possible schedule for our students and staff. 📚✨ #Bowiebuilt

Bowie ISD will continue to offer our Backpack Buddy food program this week. This program provides an additional backpack/sack of food for the weekend, made possible through the generosity of our local church and business partners.
Food distribution will take place at Bowie Intermediate School on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 1:00-2:00 PM. This opportunity is available to all students in grades K–12 who traditionally receive weekend food support.
We hope this helps those in need until we see everyone back on Monday!

Snow days have been fun, but we are definitely ready to get back to school! We’ve missed our students and can’t wait to welcome everyone back on Monday, February 2, for a fresh start. #bowiebuilt #staysafe #staywarm

Many of our students and buses would be required to travel these potentially dangerous roads in the early morning hours, before temperatures rise above freezing. Out of an abundance of caution and with the safety of our students and staff as our top priority, Bowie ISD will be closed on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

New Training Details:
Date: February 5, 2026
Time: 1:00–3:00 PM
Location: BISD Central Administration Office
404 East Williams St.
If you are still interested in becoming a substitute, you are welcome to sign up and join us. If you signed up for the January 27th training, you do not need to sign up again, as we have your information.
Registration is available at the link below:

We look forward to seeing you there!

Friday, May 15
Please continue to monitor Bowie ISD communication via email, text, social media, and local news media for updates.
