Bowie ISD understands that recent winter weather and school closures may create challenges for our families. When roads are unsafe and access to work, stores, or school is limited, we want our community to know that you are not alone.
Bowie ISD will continue to offer our Backpack Buddy food program this week. This program provides an additional backpack/sack of food for the weekend, made possible through the generosity of our local church and business partners.
Food distribution will take place at Bowie Intermediate School on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 1:00-2:00 PM. This opportunity is available to all students in grades Kβ12 who traditionally receive weekend food support.
We hope this helps those in need until we see everyone back on Monday!

After driving our campuses, side streets, and rural areas, weβve decided to cancel school for Thursday, January 29, 2026, as road conditions have not improved enough to safely transport students.
Snow days have been fun, but we are definitely ready to get back to school! Weβve missed our students and canβt wait to welcome everyone back on Monday, February 2, for a fresh start. #bowiebuilt #staysafe #staywarm

Due to winter weather conditions, accumulated precipitation is not melting off the streets as we would hope. While main roads in town are currently drivable, side streets, driveways, and dirt roads still have significant accumulation.
Many of our students and buses would be required to travel these potentially dangerous roads in the early morning hours, before temperatures rise above freezing. Out of an abundance of caution and with the safety of our students and staff as our top priority, Bowie ISD will be closed on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Based on current weather conditions and continued planning to ensure the safety of our students and staff, Bowie ISD school campuses will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026. Ongoing inclement weather and poor road conditions have informed this decision. At this time, no significant temperature improvement is expected today.
All school events, extracurricular activities, and facility rentals scheduled for Monday, Jan. 26, are canceled. There will be no use of facilities today, Sunday, Jan. 25th, as well.
We will continue to closely monitor weather and road conditions through the weekend and on Monday. An update regarding district operations and school activities for Tuesday will be provided on Monday. Please continue to monitor Bowie ISD communication channels and local news media for updates.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Stay warm and safe. #Bowiebuilt

As below-freezing temperatures and precipitation are forecast over the next few days, Bowie ISD wants to remind families to stay informed about any weather-related announcements.
With winter weather in the forecast, Bowie ISD administrators are already closely monitoring conditions, communicating with surrounding districts, and listening to National Weather Service updates to make the best decision possible regarding school schedules.
In the event of delays, cancellations, or closures, Bowie ISD will use the district's mass communication system, social media, and local media outlets, TV and radio stations, to communicate. It is important that your email and phone numbers are up to date in the Ascender system. If you have changed your email or phone number from what is listed in Ascender, please contact the front office at your child's school to have that information updated.
"When will you know?"
We understand the importance of providing advance notice so families can make alternative arrangements. When changes to the school schedule are necessary, we strive to notify staff and families as quickly as possible through social media and our mass communication system.
We will continue to monitor conditions closely and communicate any updates.
Stay safe and warm! βοΈ

Our third graders were surprised with a meaningful gift today, the gift of words! Through the Rotary Dictionary Project, a nationwide initiative that places personal dictionaries in the hands of young learners, members of the Bowie Rotary Club visited Bowie Intermediate to deliver dictionaries to every 3rd grade student. We are grateful for their commitment to supporting literacy and investing in the success of our students at BISD. #BowieBuilt

ππ World Kindness Day β November 13 ππ
Today we celebrate World Kindness Day, a day dedicated to promoting kindness to others, to ourselves, and to the world around us. π
First introduced by the World Kindness Movement in 1998, this annual celebration reminds us that even the smallest acts of compassion can make a big difference β a smile, a helping hand, or a simple word of encouragement.
Letβs all take a moment today to spread kindness wherever we go β in our classrooms, hallways, and community. Together, we can make the world a little brighter! β¨ #WorldKindnessDay #Bowiebuilt
