BJH Families – First Day Parent Reminders!

We wanted to do one last check-in and answer a few common questions before tomorrow. Here are a few reminders to help make the first day safe and smooth for everyone.

Before School

Doors open at 7:20 AM. Students may not enter the building before 7:20, as there is no adult supervision. Please do not leave your child unattended.

Students are tardy at 7:50 AM. To help them have a calm, confident start to the day, please plan to have them out of the car by 7:40 AM.

Students should enter through the cafeteria entrance on Tarrant Street (the same entrance many of you used for Meet the Teacher).

After entering the building, students may report to the cafeteria or the auditorium.

No food is allowed in the auditorium, only the cafeteria.

Once students choose a location, they must remain there until the 7:45 bell.

Drop-Off Tips

Pull forward as far as possible so multiple vehicles can unload at the same time.

Do not drop students off on the side of Tarrant Street away from the junior high building. This requires students to cross the street, creating a safety concern.

Watch carefully for students exiting vehicles and staff members parking.

Another Drop-Off Option

N. Mill Street is an alternative.

Please use the lane closest to the school. Students can use the crosswalk to safely reach the building. This does require them to walk the length of the building on the sidewalk.

First Day Only Exception

If NO BUSES are in the gym bus lane, you may drop students off at the back gate. The gym door will be locked.

If buses are present, do not use the bus lane. Instead, pull into the gym parking lot and have your student exit there. They may use the crosswalk to reach the back gate.

This exception is for the first day only to help reduce traffic.

During School

Students should bring only what they can comfortably carry.

No pe/athletic clothes, band instruments, athletic equipment, etc. are needed tomorrow.

School supplies can be brought over the next three days, so there's no need to carry everything on the first day.

A reminder that BISD is still offering free breakfast AND lunch to ALL students.

After School

School dismisses at 4:05 PM.

Please plan to have your child picked up by 4:30 PM. Staff duty stations; therefore, student supervision ends at that time.

There are no after-school events/activities today, so please be prompt.

Tarrant Street pickup works best when vehicles pull as close as possible to the parked cars to keep traffic moving to the left side of the lane.

Please watch for students darting into the street. We tell them over and over and welcome the reinforcements from home.

N. Mill Street may also be used for pickup.

Please use the lane closest to the school whenever possible to avoid students crossing traffic or remind them to use the crosswalk.

No vehicles may enter the bus lane after school.

All afternoon pickup at the back of the school must take place in the gym parking lot, not the bus lane.

All students will be required to use the crosswalk. They will not walk between buses.

We are excited to welcome everyone back for an amazing 2026–2027 school year!
Thank you for helping us keep arrival and dismissal safe and efficient. We know that your children are your greatest gift, and we appreciate the trust you place in us each day.

We'll see our Jackrabbits tomorrow morning!

BJH Parents,
We're excited to welcome our Jackrabbits tonight for Meet the Teacher!
Our cafeteria entry door and back gate will open promptly at 6:00 PM. All families should report to the cafeteria first to verify registration and updated shot records and pick up student schedules, supply lists, and school maps. While you're there, you'll also find a QR code to sign in for the evening. You only need to complete the sign-in one time per child. We will also have our back gate opened to allow parking in the gym parking lot. Please remember that you do need to report to the cafeteria even when parking in the back lot.
To help reduce hallway congestion and give our newest students a little extra time to get comfortable with the campus, we have suggested the following arrival times:
6th Grade: 6:00 PM
7th Grade: 6:30 PM
8th Grade: 7:00 PM
These are simply recommended arrival times—not a hard-and-fast rule—but we hope they will help create a smoother experience for everyone.
We can't wait to see our Jackrabbits and their families tonight. It's going to be a great year at #ourhouse!

Help us make a difference! As we all prepare for a new school year, consider setting aside any new or gently used clothing your family no longer needs. Our first Back-to-School Clothing Drive will help students and families shop for free during the BISD Back-to-School Bash on August 1. Every donation—whether it's a shirt, pair of jeans, shoes, or a jacket—helps ensure more students start the school year looking and feeling their best!

Drop off your clothing donations at Bowie Junior High (501 E. Tarrant St.) from July 20th--31st between 8:00 & 4:00. Then join us at the Back-to-School Bash at Bowie HS to celebrate our community and support Bowie ISD students.

Together, we can help every child start the school year strong. ❤️ #BowieBuilt

🚨 Important Vaccination Information for the 2026-2027 School Year 🚨

As we prepare for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year, now is the perfect time to review your child’s immunization records.

Texas State Law requires all students to have updated vaccination records or a valid exemption on file before the first day of school.

✔️ If your child is fully vaccinated or has a current exemption (expires every two years) already on file with the school nurse — No action is needed!

❗ If your child needs vaccinations or you have not submitted updated records, we encourage you to take care of this over the summer to avoid any delays in enrollment.

📄 Not sure what vaccines are required for your child’s grade level?
Please review the attached PDF below for detailed immunization requirements by grade level.

Mark your calendars for the Bowie ISD Back to School Bash August 1, 2026.
The BJH leadership team will reach out to families of students who need to participate in summer school due to attendance deficiencies or a failing year-end grade. It is VERY important that we contact each family to ensure that all students' needs are met. These needs include transportation and meal counts. Thank you in advance for promptly picking up and/or returning our calls. The attachment includes the information for both weeks of summer school. We will make calls regarding STAAR tests next Monday after receiving the results on Friday, May 29.

A group of eighth grade parents has asked me to send this out. There's information on the end of the year party as well as an eighth grade shirt. To ensure your child gets the shirt for the last day of school group picture, orders need to be turned in ASAP. There will also be an option to purchase that picture. She mentioned tomorrow at the latest to have them finished. It is hopeful that everyone has a shirt. Contact the names on the flier if you need assistance or have questions. This is a parent event not a school sponsored event. https://saydesignsllc.com/products/bowie-junior-high-senior-2030-tee

End of Year
We are offering the TSI to our 8th graders. This is a college entrance exam and one that students will take in high school. We feel that our strong math and/or reading students are ready for this test. The test is divided into two main parts math and language arts. There are two sub sections of the RLA test. One part is a multiple choice section and the other part is more writing/essay based. The district pays for all students' first testing attempt. If you would like your child to take the test at school on Tuesday, please use the link to sign up. Thanks! E-mail student specific questions to Jeneanne.Fleming@bowieisd.net or Heather.Duncan@bowieisd.net. Test specific questions should be directed to Mrs. Jones. Her contact info is on the attached graphic.
